1.There are currently two operational inclines in Pittsburgh today, but at one point, there were 15. The two that remain are the Monongahela, built in 1870, claiming fame as the oldest continuously operating incline in the United States. These two inclines run from Mt. Washington to the South Side of Pittsburgh.

2. Several major department stores originated in Pittsburgh, with Hornes being the first, followed by Kaufmanns. Pittsburgh locals fondly remember Kaufmanns for its beautifully decorated store windows during Christmas. Its famous clock became a favorite meeting place.

       Helen began her career at Donahoe’s, gradually rising through the ranks to become a manager. Amidst wartime challenges Helen grappled with the ever changing rules of  ration stamps.

5.Pittsburgh is home to the first radio broadcasting station , KDKA, and is still in operation.
